Xmen origins: Wolverine had such promise and huge potential to be a great movie, we were introduced to so many great characters and our first look at Deadpool and how exciting is that? But as some of these movie can go it went the weird route and believe me, I tend to like a lot of movies that people hate. I for one will always like superhero movies, they are fun, tons of great action and awesome special effects. They are my outlet from the real world to a universe where we can see people fly and do superhuman strength rescues.
Wolverine had many fun moments for me and I loved seeing how he became The Wolverine, what his life was like and why he is the way he is. When director start making decisions about how a character should look or be, they need to stop right there, they have material to help them know, that part of the job is taken care of for them. Just focus on the movie and the story you have to tell there. I was having fun until the part where we see them messing with characters looks.
The other thing I enjoy in these kind of movies is the special effects, you know going into an Xmen movie that you are bound to see that and with the way technology is and going we can get some pretty cool stuff. If you remember the first Xmen movie with Bryan Singer, Wolverine had claws and they looks cool, and that was back in 2000m this movie came out in 2009, so we are talking 9 years apart and yes we have come a long way with our special effects. They had awesome visuals and effects in this movie but wolverines claws were not. I am not being nitpicky here, trust me I am the last guy who will want to notice that, but it felt like they didn’t even try to make it look real. You can see the CGI, it reminded me of those behind the scene moments where they talk about layers in effects and here is what it looks like before we add the color layer and now with the layer on, etc… His claws brought the movie down for me when he didn’t have them out I was fine again. Sad right? The claws is what he is all about and it felt like they didn’t have a budget for those in this movie, go figure, accountants.
The story was fine, it had a cool way of telling us where he came from and how he got where he is today, I didn’t have many issues with that, but at times, I just felt like I was bored and I wonder if it had anything to do with the behind the scenes issues the movie had with the director fighting the studios and so on. I think it translated to the screen. Hugh Jackman did what he could with what was given to him and I love him as an actor and he is the Wolverine, no questions there. Maybe the director had to much on his plate trying to juggle so many superheroes in one movie and I don’t know if it was his decision or whoever it was to change the look of Deadpool, but it didn’t work for me and that also ruined it.
Overall the movie has some great superhero moments and you will love Hugh Jackman more for his part, but this is one of the few movies and especially superhero movies that I was left disappointed with, so I wouldn’t bother watching it, unless you want to know more about wolverine, but everything else was not worth it.
