Tomorrowland – Review

This movie was different for me, and not in a bad way. I know what you are thinking now and because I started my review the way I did, you think that it is not going to be worth going to. Don’t think that. I am not a huge George Clooney fan, that is where this started for me, but what attracted me to see the movie was the concept of what they were trying to do with this movie. I have not seen too many Disney movies lately and this was probably the first one I went to see where I had no idea what I was going into. Most of the time I tend to be excited to see a Disney movie or think that my kids will enjoy the movie, so I get excited for them.

britt-robertsonHere I had an opportunity to go see it by chance, I was actually not going to see it and wait for the video, but can’t pass up an opportunity. Got my large drink, sat down and started on what I hoped “a Fantasy ride” would take place, again not really expecting much from this movie. First let me say the effects are amazing, worth watching on a big screen and the sound just made it more of an experience. They are really getting it right with special effects, huge props for that. The story had some holes, but as you may know of my previous reviews, I don’t put a lot of weight on that. Sure a movie needs to have a story a purpose, but I try to enjoy what the movie is and not so much if it follows an “arch”.

After it got going I started to quickly realize this is going to be the sci-fi movie I thought it would be. I just didn’t want to be let down by the effects and flow of the movie, it was delivering on that right away and I am glad it didn’t take long before getting into the fantasy part. I love the transitions and just the imagination of how they went between two worlds and it was very seamless how the girl went between two worlds. That was fun. Now, there is George Clooney, don’t get me wrong, great actor and he knows what he doing, but I have to be in the “mood” to watch one of his movies. He has this particular way of portraying his characters and I have to be ready for him, I know I am weird. Oddly enough I had a good time watching him do his part and I believed his action and his character. Some felt a little out of place for George and he did well, very surprised I liked him in this movie.

The whole movie is what it said it would be, I did hope for more fun scenes in the movie and I think at times that stuff was being thrown in because they didn’t know what direction to take and made a story around this machine. Once the ending came it all took place really fast. We spent more time getting to know the characters then the actual story and when we did know about the story it ended. At least that is my take on it, but, and there is a big one. I enjoyed it and thought that my kids would like this one because of the message and special effects. It was a fun ride when they happened, I wish they had more of that in it.

Love watching, talking and writing about movies i've watched. I want to help others sift through critic reviews, so you can watch a movie you may have missed out on because you were misled by a critic.
