The is the prequel/sequel to the Snow White movie with Kristen Stewart from 2012, the same movie that didn’t blow people away, but there were elements that attracted a crowd to the theater. I call it a prequel/sequel because if you haven’t heard or seen any trailer for this one, you would know this is the story before the Snow White movie we saw 4 years ago. The movie tells us about how we ended up with Chris Hemsworth as our huntsman and we get his back story about his life and that part of his wife. If you don’t know what I am talking about you may want to go watch the Snow White movie and come back to this review.
The first outing to this story was not received well by critics or audience, but made some money, my biggest gripe was Kristen Stewart in the lead role and while Chris Hemsworth stole the movie, I found it a little odd that another movie based on this world would be made. In terms of numbers it did ok according to Hollywood standards but by no means was it a success. I wonder if it had anything to do with the Huntsman character and that people really liked Chris in the part? I don’t know, the movie got made and here we are.
I for one had fun with this movie, I went with my wife and she is great way for me to measure if the movie is good or just me excited about it. If you have read my articles I do tend to write about those I like, but I do have some out there where you should just avoid them. You need to know this is a fairytale movie, it has goblins, magic and all of the ingredients of a story that belongs in a book full of adventure. The Huntsman manages to recap the story of Snow White to make sure we understand this is the same universe and how this one fits in the story we already know. The way the movie flowed was great, we got a little backstory and then the current story to bring us to date and allowing the audience continue where Snow White left off. I got to know the Huntsman better, helping me understand him and his reasons for not wanting to get too close to people.
The latest outing of the story give us some of the same elements of magic, but it wasn’t in your face, and I felt like it fit the story better and the situation where needed. I know this is a fairytale and that I am going to see great moments, suspenseful moments and crazy moments. Knowing that I had a good time with the movie, also being introduced to new character with Emily blunt and Jessica Chastain were great additions. We also have some old with Charlize Theron and a couple of surprises along the way. The movie has some heroic moments and a love story which come on, this is a fairytale, it has to have a love story.
The movie felt like certain parts of the story were borrowed from other stories, but they had to go somewhere with it and I liked how it was done. I talked to my wife after it and she had a lot of the same feelings, she enjoyed herself, she also knew what she was going into and had a great time. We both felt like it was a great movie and worth the time to watch it. I say go watch it and if you were the few that liked the Kristen Stewart Snow White, you will like this one as well, if not more than the other. I know it’s getting panned by everyone else, go and make your own thoughts about it. The movie kept my attention, with the laughing and suspense and also great effects, Charlize does a scary and creepy villain and that freaks me out. I have seen her in other roles that are freaky and it works. The movie delivered in many areas, so this has to be another of my 2GO picks, tell me what you thought if you saw it, I would love to hear your thoughts.
