The reason why I love watching movies and in general action movies, is because I like to escape this world to an unbelievable world where the good always triumphs the bad. They give you enough realism and in most cases almost 95% of real world scenarios to “ground” the movie. Then there is the 5% where the movie can take you where ever they want and take the action to what ever level of craziness that it wants. I LOVE IT.London has fallen is the direct sequel to the movie ‘Olympus has Fallen’, and if you saw the first one you will know that it’s about a secret service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) who has to protect the President of the United States Benjamin Asher played by Aaron Eckhart. In the first movie he has to kill like a thousand guys to make sure that The President doesn’t get killed by terrorist, well maybe not a thousand but when you have one guy doing the killing because no one else can kill a terrorist, it feels like a thousand. Mike is back and protecting POTUS at a funeral that the President is invited to attend in short notice due to the Prime Minister dying suddenly. The problem Mike faces is planning the protecting detail of the President in such short notice, dealing with building a family and also contemplating his retirement from the secret service. So we have all these important decisions being made and we then get to throw in some a terrorist that has plans of his own.So now that the stage is set for the movie, it doesn’t take long for the movie to get going, and for these kind of movies I like getting into the action and not waste too much time with other backstories. We do get some indication in the very beginning of the movie who our terrorist is and what his motivations are for this large scale attack. If you watch the trailer it goes over the death of world leaders and all of this happening in London where they were for the funeral of the Prime Minster that had passed away. There was an obvious ambush that happens making it hard for Mike to protect the President and he ends up being the only one left to protect the President from the crazy terrorist trying to make his point with a live execution of the President over the internet. What I liked about the movie is the action, I am a huge action movie buff and if you have been watching my youtube videos or reading my reviews, I enjoy a great movie with action, I love explosions, fight scenes, and daring escapes where the good guy comes out on top. I think with this movie they knew that they were going to go over the top on their action and blowing stuff up and when a movie is aware of that I think it becomes a successful movie. I don’t think they planned on any awards or best cinematography or musical score. None of that matters, they wanted to make a movie where people get shot, blown up and one guy has to save the day.
I read some of the reviews this movie got and it had a rotten tomatoes score of 26% by the critics and 56% for the audience, here is how I look at those scores normally for me when the critics give it a low score usually the audience goes the complete other way, when they are pretty close in scores either for low or high percentage we can get a good indication of how well or bad the movie really was. In this case both the audience and the critics were about the same, but it still had a 56% from the audience and that is impart because of the fun time you will have, some of the reviews had words like “implausible” or “over the top violence” and my favorite “ludicrous script”. What did you expect of this movie? The bad guys in this movie make storm troopers expert marksmen, and the hero comes out on top killing everyone and saving the day, did I spoil it? No, I didn’t pretty sure you knew where this movie was going. I often wonder why critics can’t go into a movie knowing what it is about and comes out surprised that it was something else?
So to end my review I enjoyed it because I knew what it was, it wasn’t a smart, plot twisting thriller or heart felt movie and it even ended the way I thought it would, it just ended, everyone died and the movie ends. That my fellow readers is what a summer blockbuster, popcorn movie is. This movie is up there with any of Bruce Willis’ Die Hard movies or any of Arnold Schwarzenegger where they can kill anyone and the bad guys can’t kill them, but we still have a good time. I give it a 2GO pick because it is a great time saving the President.
