Iron-Man 3 – Movie Review

0

The ironic thing about the Marvel movies is the huge success that they have all seen. The other is the one movie that got this success freight train going for marvel was Iron-Man. I say ironic because super hero movies were not seen as going to be popular or a huge investments for studios. We have seen older incarnations with the Batman movies and although some were good there were some pretty bad ones that just made comic book movies a joke.

Here comes Iron-Man and we are literally blown away by the interpretation of Tony Stark and I can safely say that I would have a hard time seeing anyone else portraying him in any future movies. Robert Downey Jr. owns that character and only he can pull it off and I loved the first movies in the series and got really excited for what was to come. Now, we get to the weird part of this review and how I was let down by the third movie in the Iron-Man franchise, yes, I was let down. Don’t get me wrong the movie is not all terrible, there is a lot still to like about the movie, but what left me let down was the pacing of the movie, it just felt slow at times, I honestly was getting bored at times and was waiting for the next action scene to wake me up.ironman 3I know, I know, but this is Iron-Man, the same guy and the same franchise that got us excited about Marvel and the future movies to come. Since the first Iron-Man we have seen other incarnations of superhero movies like Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Avengers, Gaurdians of the Galaxy and those movies just seemed to get better and better. What happened with Iron-Man, the second was good, still not the best, but I love that one, and with this third one it went downhill for me. The stuff that I loved about Iron-man 3 were the acting, there are some great moments that Robert is able to give us with Tony Stark and we see some intense moments that Tony is going through and Robert Downey Jr. as always is the man that can pull that off and I love the feeling that I get during those scenes.IRON MAN 3The action in the movie is great, there are moments where we don’t know what we are going to get and also love the moment when we can see Tony Stark doing action scenes without his suit. We got to see another side of him where he is forced to make things happen without the help of his armored suit. I love seeing his new toys, his suits and having them join in on the action scenes as well. Great special effects as always and tense moments. The relationship with Tony and Pepper was great to see that develop even more which confuses me when you see Captain America: Civil War, but that is another review. Pepper and Tony seem to be getting closer and finding a firm foundation for their future which makes it that much more powerful when you see Tony doing what it takes to save her after she get’s taken by the villain of the movie.Iron-Man-3-Pepper-Potts-Mark-42-ArmorSo those are probably the strengths of the movie what turned me off was the direction of the movie with the choice of the villain and story they chose to go with him. we were introduced to a well known villain called “The Mandarin” who is know to be a ruthless and evil man, with no regards for life or any hesitation to inflict pain on people. This movie did that well when they introduced him and I got really excited to see an evil villain that is not superhuman and could cause so much pain and conflict for Tony Stark that he is willing to let go of any moral compass that he has just so he can stop this lunatic.mandarin-iron-man-3Everything was going well until we learned about the real villain and how all of this was just a sham to conceal the true plot of the movie. I read an article the other day where the director of Iron-man 3 defends his decision to make his reveal of the villain and the direction he went with him. Sure this is his baby and he will defend it right or wrong, but come on really, that was a good idea? The other major let down of the movie was the mental issues that Tony was struggling with, yes I get it, you fought these bad guys from space and you almost died being sucked into space in the first Avengers movie, but to have it derail Tony to the extent that he was so helpless, I couldn’t buy it. This is Tony Stark and he has a solution for everything and confidence and he can work out his problems. It didn’t feel natural for him to be like this, I had a hard time with that.p03crg65The ending of the movie was cool to see all of Tony’s toys come to the rescue and as cool as that was it was also very crowded, I got excited to see the many suits he had created in his spare time, which we all know he has a lot of. What wasn’t cool was the little amount of time spent with some of them, it just felt like let’s throw that in and not use it long even though it was a really awesome suit that I would have rather spent more time with then some of the choices they made for the movie. I also understand how hard something like that is to pull off right, but it just felt too distracting to me and hard to follow what was happening. As I type this review, I feel so let down that I can’ t point good things out which would make this movie so much better. Look at the Captain America movies, those just got better and better, why couldn’t Iron-Man that started all of this out get the same love?

When we see Tony Stark in Avengers or the Captain America movies, he is back to his old self and more of what Tony Stark is. The third Iron-Man movie just felt out of place, almost like they just threw together a story just to make another Iron-Man movie. I did like how they tried to give us some emotional scenes and making Tony Stark a human that has problems like anyone else, but I couldn’t love the movie as a whole, just parts here and there for me. I must give this one a Don’t Bother!

Please give us back another Iron-Man movie that corrects the wrongs of this one.

Summary

Weak story that made the movie drag for me and just a mess of things going that didn't ever get me excited to see Tony Stark on screen, what happened to the Iron-Man franchise?

7.0 Meh

Love watching, talking and writing about movies i've watched. I want to help others sift through critic reviews, so you can watch a movie you may have missed out on because you were misled by a critic.
